Gordon Foster has been General Manager at Abbey Hill for 6 years. He says that the club made a trip that included improved service and sales process and changed the way in which their Golf Pro performs lessons. The club has also simplified for the disabled people to play golf, given free lessons to juniors and more. But there is no magic answer to how to get a club to suddenly go from being non-profitable to become profitable. Gordon Foster says it''s important to give your visitors a great experience relative to the cost.
The club had been looking at adventure golf for a number of years. They felt that the golf market in the UK had stagnated and in order to grow, they decided to move into a new market and adventure golf „ticketed all boxes”. Now, they have noticed that several of the young people who play at the adventure golf glances towards the golf driving range and want to continue there. Adventure golf attracts more visitors to the area and provides income for the rest of the business. The operating profit has doubled for the other operations in the last six years.
